Students in Nicaragua are fighting for what they believe in
On April 16, the President Daniel Ortega of Nicaragua sought to address Nicaragua’s deficient with a new social security reform that would raise taxes and change pensions. The spike in taxes includes raising how much a company pays per employee, from 19 percent to 22.5 percent. People who are retired would need to give a percentage of their money back to the government. The raise of pensions means it would be better for small companies to hire under the table, to avoid paying the government and that big companies will start to lay off workers. Ortega attempting to fix his financial mistakes at the expense of the people came with backlash.
What does the Keeping the Faith in Adoption and Foster Care Act really mean for families?
The Keeping the Faith in Adoption and Foster Care Act is masquerading as something that it is not. What this bill truly is, is a direct attack on LGBTQ+ parents and a danger to LGBTQ+ children in the system. Being in the system is enough of a struggle without adding in the fact that you do not conform to social norms of sexuality and gender identity. Not only would this bill allow publicly funded agencies to turn away LGBTQ+ parents but children as well. They could do this all under the mask of religious freedom without calling it what it is: discrimination.
Make 'One Day at a Time' your next Netflix binge
Elena and Penelope aren’t the only amazing characters. There is so much richness and life to this show. It is funny and heartbreaking. Netflix shows have had their ups and downs, but “One Day at a Time” is definitely an up. It’s a show that we need. It’s a normal Latino family onscreen, dealing with everyday events while still being funny and heartwarming. As a Hispanic woman, it is incredible to see good representation on my TV screen, representation that feels honest and true. Representation that doesn’t make me want to roll my eyes.
