“ Words were different when they lived inside you.” - Benjamine Alire Sáenz

I’m a Queer Mexican American writer, reader, and reviewer. I fell in love with reading as a kid who practically lived inside my school or local library. As the first-generation eldest daughter, reading wasn’t just something I loved but something I needed to survive. It’s because of the library and books that I was able to be the first in my family to graduate from college, and now have the ability to choose the kind of life I want. I love analyzing the books, movies, and TV shows that I consume. And I am thankful to my parents that I can take the time to sit down and write about them here.

This is a space for me to share not just my opinions on the pieces of media that I like, but also my own writing. You’ll see some short stories and a few currently published pieces. I love analyzing books, movies, and TV shows, but can’t really spend every single conversation talking about them, so instead, this is the space where I can go off, and hopefully, some of you will also find it interesting.

My favorite genres are Sci-fi, fantasy, and literary fiction, but I try to read a little bit of everything. My primary focus is on consuming queer BIPOC books. I am very character-focused, so for me, bad writing or even a nonsensical plot can be redeemed by strong character work. So, expect the focus of my reviews to be on how the characters are developed through the writing, plot, and world rather than on the technical side of writing, though it will likely be mentioned in passing.

My college professor said two things to me that I will never forget because I think he’s right. He said that to be a writer is to love humanity, even when you hate it. And that you’re a writer because you believe you have something to say that others need to hear. So here are my thoughts on how books, movies, TV shows, and some of my own writing.
